Hillsborough Announces Temporary Solid Waste Service Interruptions Due to COVID-19

COVID-19 Coronavirus Update No. 151

Hillsborough County, Fla. (June 24, 2020) – Hillsborough County Solid Waste is announcing a temporary service interruption for customers served by Waste Connections due to a significant shortage of truck drivers caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus.

In order to continue serving customers with twice-a-week garbage collection, Waste Connections will temporarily suspend the residential recycling collection service beginning today (June 24) and will not service the blue recycling carts until further notice.

Waste Connections may also be delayed by a day on regular scheduled residential yard waste collection service.

If customers experience a missed garbage collection this week, please place the residential waste out for collection on the next scheduled service day.

These temporary service interruptions will solely impact residential solid waste customers served by Waste Connections. Residents who are uncertain if these service interruptions impact them can find out HCFLGov.net/trash and clicking on the “Find my trash and recycling” tab. Once on the web page, input the address, and the waste service provider will be displayed.

Residents who want to continue recycling are encouraged to drop off their recyclables at one of the County’s Community Collection Centers, which are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information and locations of the Community Collection Centers, visit HCFLGov.net/trash and click on the “Uncollected household trash” tab.

Residents who do not wish to take recyclables to one of the County’s drop-off recycling sites can store their recyclables until recycling services resume or dispose of the material in their garbage cart.

Residents can also dispose of their yard waste at one of the County’s three Yard Waste Processing sites, which are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To access the Yard Waste Processing sites, residents must show valid identification with their address and a copy of their property tax bill showing the Solid Waste assessment charges. Visit HCFLGov.net/trash and select the “Yard and wood waste” tab for a list of locations and additional information.

Hillsborough County values the environmental and economic benefits recycling provides our community; however, the COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event. The County is working diligently to resume normal operations as quickly as possible and will announce when Waste Connections is able to offer regular curbside recycling and yard waste services.
We apologize for the service interruption. For more information, please call the Solid Waste Customer Service Team at (813) 272-5680.
