Carrollwood Village Management Report - May 2010 TECO repaired the chain and gate at the end of Pittsfield Road behind Avista. It has remained intact for the past month. The chain is square linked and heavy duty. The gate has been welded on to the posts. TECO is committed to securing the area and will do what is necessary if this fix does not work.
Several ponds throughout Phases II and III started to accumulate heavy algae the middle of May. Lake Masters treated the following week. The cause of the algae bloom cannot be precisely determined, but a major contributing factor appeared to be the low water levels. Copies of my emails to Commissioners Hagan and Norman provided in the backup material expressed the concerns of many Village residents about the appearance of the ponds due to the low water level and algae. A meeting with the County staff will be scheduled in May to inspect all the weirs to determine if they are set at the proper level and to repair/adjust those that need it to bring the levels up. The ultimate goal is to have the County permanently mark the weirs at their proper level and to document the height of each weir level on a map that shows the location and flow pattern throughout the Village. This document will be used in the future to determine if any changes are made and to make rapid adjustments. John Newton will lead the County staff. He managed the Western Service Unit and Dan hasI worked with him for several years. He is very familiar with the Village drainage and the flow pattern.
Site Essentials has replaced the north front entrance sign, but they are waiting for good weather to spray and paint over the high gloss. Installation of signs at seven Phase III subdivision entrances is in progress. The next 14 signs will be in Phase II.
Work orders completed: TECO repaired the gate at Pittsfield Road. Work orders pending: Clean the gazebo roof; repair wash out at the Millennium Park; order tennis court benches.
It is time to replace all the dead and removed plants with more cold tolerant plants. Large patches of dead grass will also have to be replaced.
Village Lawn Care completed all their routine contract items. They removed or cut back freeze damage, and are continuing to spray for weeds in the grass.
Now that the water temperatures are above 70 degrees and the water is low, Lake Masters is also concentrating on removing submersed aquatic weeds.

The 2010 Summer Camps at the Carrollwood Cultural Center are right around the corner...and you can be a hero by helping children and families who cannot afford this experience on their own. Do not let them lose an opportunity for creative exploration and growth this summer. Please give to the Tom Jones Tuition Assistance Fund, which provides assistance to individuals based on need. $100 will provide one week of tuition assistance for Carrollwood Cultural Center's summer camps, an experience that will positively impact a child for years to come.
In addition, any gift at or above $100 will receive a complimentary ticket to Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN.

Center Spotlight Tours are a new way to get people more connected to the Carrollwood Cultural Center. They offer a look into what the Center is all about, and provide an opportunity to give feedback on how to make the Center even better.
We encourage everyone to attend - whether you are actively involved in the Center already, or are completely new to the Center. This is your cultural center - we encourage you to come, learn and grow with us!
The tours are one hour and light refreshments will be served. Check the CCC calendar below right for the next tour date and time.
RSVP is required. Please RSVP to development@carrollwoodcenter.org or call (813) 269-1310 ext. 210.
Please try to have your resident parking passes in place or some form of ID when using Village Phase III Parks. The following are excerpts from a note to Village residents from Phase III President, Bill West. The full text can be seen here.
"In the past many non Village residents have been using our parks, especially the main park at West Village and Burrington. We have never been against this, however over time we have seen many non residents leaving trash and abusing the facilities. Our main park is also often overcrowded with many parking on the landscaped areas and damaging the irrigation. The costs have become too high."
"Please know that both non residents and residents will be asked to leave if they are breaking park rules. "
"Your Phase III board has enacted the above to try to reduce the cost of wear and tear and maintenance at our parks while improving the enjoyment for our residents. We hope all will embrace the changes."
